There’s been a lot of weirdness with the self-driving taxis in California and Arizona, but nothing that’s been a threat to the soul of America. Until now.
The drive-thru lines at Chick-fil-A are notoriously long, and on Monday night, a Waymo driverless taxi glitched out and caused a major back-up at a Chick-fil-A line in Santa Monica, California.
No one was hurt, but the driverless car did cause the enough commotion that they closed the drive-thru. A walk-up window remained open.
Witnesses say the Waymo stalled out with its hazard lights on. At one point, it backed up a little, then stopped again. It’s unclear if anyone was inside or if the car was on its own solo mission.
Some hungry people complained about being stuck waiting for over a half-hour, but ultimately everyone survived, and the world did not end.
