Should You Have to Retake Your Driver’s Test at 50?

Based on that moron who just cut you off while staring at his phone, maybe we should do this.  A study in Australia found it would make the roads safer if people had to retake their driver’s test at age 50.

They cited stats that show 19% of fatal crashes involve people under 25, but 21% involve people over 65.

The fact that our eyesight and reactions get worse is part of it.  But it’s also about bad driving habits, like not using turn signals and not checking blind spots.

After 30-plus years of those habits going unchecked, they can get set in stone.  So should everyone have to take a refresher course, even if they’ve never been in an accident?

In a poll last month, a quarter of Americans said they’re not sure they could pass a written exam if they had to take it right now.
