Old-School Metal Braces Are Cool Now

If you call a kid “brace face” these days, they might take it as a compliment . . . “The Washington Post” says old-school braces are COOL now.  (???)

An orthodontist in Tucson, Arizona told them kids BEG for metal braces now instead of things like Invisalign.  He says they’ve become a weird sort of “fashion symbol.”

Another one in California agreed.  He said it started about a year ago, and now more and more patients are excited to get them.  He asked other orthodontists in a Facebook group, and they said it’s a nationwide trend.

A handful of influencers and celebrities have made them trendy.  Some may have even gotten them just for show.  (Some think rapper Lil Uzi Vert did.)

Fake braces have also become a thing on Etsy, but experts say don’t do it.  They can cause infections, tooth damage, or be a choking hazard.

The “Post” talked to a dental assistant in Brooklyn who’s 24 and recently got braces.  He said, “No shade to Invisalign, but it’s kind of boring to me.”
