Two weeks until Valentine’s Day, MEN. And don’t trick yourself into thinking a break-up would be easier than buying a half-decent gift.
A new study found break-ups tend to be harder on men than they are on women. There’s a stereotype that women are more emotionally dependent, but it might be the opposite.
The study found men, at least straight men, tend to rely on their romantic partner for more emotional support. Women don’t need to as much, because they also get it from their friends.
It found guys are more likely to see relationships as being beneficial to their overall well-being, and they’re not wrong. They get more mental and physical benefits than women do, leading to better mental health and higher life satisfaction.
Men are also more likely to report feelings of sadness and loneliness after a break-up. And because of that, they’re not usually the one who instigates it. Previous studies have found 70% of divorces are initiated by women.
