Stupid Criminal: A Teen Upset About the TikTok Ban Set Fire to His Congressman’s Office

TikTok was down for less than 24 hours this weekend.  How did America’s youth react?

A 19-year-old in Wisconsin is facing charges after he tried to burn down his congressman’s office.  He told cops he did it because he was upset about TikTok going away.  It happened in Fond du Lac early Sunday morning, about three hours after TikTok went dark.

The office he torched belongs to Congressman Glenn Grothman.  He’s a Republican who’s been outspoken about TikTok being a security threat.  He co-sponsored a bill to ban it on government devices in 2022.

The fire started near a backdoor and burned some vinyl siding outside.  Cops knocked the flames down with fire extinguishers.  Then firefighters got there and took over.  They say the fire never got inside.  (Here’s a photo of the damage.)

Fond du Lac’s chief of police said no one was there when it happened, so luckily no one got hurt.  Last we checked, they still hadn’t released the guy’s name, but he’s facing arson charges.

They said he was arrested at the scene “because he was just sitting there watching it burn.”

(I love that he went all in.  Like, “If I can’t have TikTok, I might as well be in jail.”  But now everyone has it back, except him.  No TikTok in prison.)
