Gen Z Would Rather Text a Coworker, Even While Sitting Next to Them

How addicted is Gen Z to texting?  There’s a decent chance they’d even use it to say, “Hand me that pen.”

A poll on office chit-chat found 27% of workers today are more comfortable communicating over text or email than face-to-face.  That includes 40% of Gen Z.

48% of us will even do it when sitting near the person we’re texting, because it’s just “more convenient.”  (???)

74% overall admitted they struggle to make conversation with coworkers when they run into them in the office kitchen or an elevator.

28% even avoid the kitchen altogether, because they worry they’ll get into a situation where they HAVE to make chit-chat.

In other words, water cooler talk might be dying out, even though most of us agree it’s beneficial in ways.  51% think small talk around the office improves communication.  And 48% think it boosts morale.
