If you’re aiming for a less-cluttered home this year, you’re not alone. Two-thirds of us think starting the year out clutter-free is a “key.” And a third of us are making it a top priority right now.
Realistically though, you might have the same goal in 2026. People were asked how long they think they’ll stick with it, and the average answer was just 38 days.
That means by February 8th, most of us will be back to socks on the floor and dishes in the sink. 59% said they probably won’t even last that long.
42% said a messy home makes them feel overwhelmed, 37% said irritable, and 34% said unfocused. The average person said it would take 20 hours to really get their place in good shape right now.
Here are the top three strategies we’ll try to adopt this year:
1. Organizing on a regular basis, 43%.
2. Only buying things you really need, 38%.
3. A better storage system, 30%.
