If you’re a fan of British movies and books, you’ve probably noticed there’s just something quaint and different about life, that just doesn’t seem to happen in America. And this is a great example:
There’s a town in Nottinghamshire, England, that’s grappling with a bizarre mystery: Someone is leaving plates of peeled bananas at a street corner, and they have been appearing there every month, for over a year.
Even stranger, they usually show up on the second of every month. (???)
Locals can’t figure it out. Some think the peeled bananas could be intended for wildlife, some think it could be some kind of religious offering, because there’s a church across the street, but most people don’t have a clue.
One person put up signs that say, “Please, respectfully, no more bananas! The uncollected plates and rotting bananas leave such a mess.”
But, that woman later decided to take the sign down. She said, “I don’t really want to make it like a feud, I don’t want it to become a big thing. I think it’s a special thing for [someone], and I wish them well. But if they could come back and clean up the mess a few days later that would be lovely.” (Which is a very British thing to say.)
It’s unclear if any officials are actually looking into this, or if any detectives are on the case. But, it’s 2025, so if you really wanted to get to the bottom of it, you could probably set up some cameras.
