Google released its annual “Year in Search” stats, and in America in 2024, it was dominated by: The election, the Olympics, Hurricane Milton.

Here’s a rundown of the top searches by category in the U.S. . . .
1. The Top 10 news topics we googled, in order, were: The election, the soccer (football) tournament Copa América, the 2024 Summer Olympics, Hurricane Milton, and the Paralympics.
The next five were: Project 2025, the Trump assassination attempt,U.S. House election results, “heat advisory”, and Hurricane Helene.
2. The top “memes and trends” we were trying to figure out were: Demure,. “Just Give Me My Money“, English or Spanish, This and Yap, 17 Diapers, “Hear Me Out“, Coquette, Roman Empire, which actually started last year, Brat, and Big Back.
3. The top recipes we searched were: “Olympics chocolate muffin” (made famous by Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen), Tanghulu ,Tini’s mac and cheese, Mama Kelce’s cookies, and dense bean salad.
4. And PICKLES were so big that Google devoted a special section to our favorite pickle recipe searches: Dill pickle bread, daikon radish pickles, pickled cucumber salad, Pickle Dr. Pepper, and refrigerator pickle brine.
5. The top workout was the “somatic workout.” Some others include: The “indoor walking workout”, “28-day calisthenics”, and “the wolverine.”
6. The top Google Maps searches for tourist attractions were: The Sphere in Vega, Navy Pier in Chicago, the Edge in New York City, the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, and Willis Tower in Chicago.
