Here’s a reminder that it’s okay to pivot and change plans when needed: Some idiot decided to shoplift from a Walmart near Richmond, Virginia on Sunday, while an annual “Shop with a Cop” event was going on.
32-year-old Hector Maldonado pulled into the parking lot, and around 40 marked police cruisers were lined up in front of him. But he still went inside and tried to walk out with $1,400 worth of stuff.
Around 50 cops were inside the store shopping with kids, and they were all in uniform. But instead of choosing a different store, he went for it anyway.
A Walmart employee said they saw Hector hiding items and trying to leave the store with them. So the cops spread out and surrounded him. He tried to escape through the back, but they chased him down and got him in custody.
A police spokesman said they were stunned he did it, since there’s no way he could have missed the fact that the place was crawling with cops.
It turned out he had active warrants after skipping his court date for a different shoplifting bust. He’s now facing a fresh charge for felony grand larceny.
(Here’s his mugshot.)
