A conspiracy theory that originated on a Brazilian site back in 2011, claimed that Avril Lavigne committed suicide in 2003 after her grandfather’s death and was replaced by Melissa Vandella, Avril’s supposed body double. The theory goes as far to suggest that her record label released an already recorded album after she passed away, and had Melissa pretend to be her for promotion of the album, and has continued her career as Avril since.
